One of the largest divisions of the Kowa group is the pharmaceutical sector. With its wholly-owned subsidiaries Kowa is dedicated to the research, development, manufacturing, sales and marketing of healthcare products aimed at improving the quality of life of people throughout the world.
In the major markets in the world we have our own vertically integrated pharmaceutical operations. We also partner with experienced, competent pharmaceutical companies in other areas of the world that can benefit from our medicines. We have a robust pipeline of innovative products in development throughout our research centers of excellence. The most recent product to emerge from our pipeline is now our flagship brand LIVALO® (pitavastatin), which is indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
LIVALO® is now available in the US, China, Korea, and Thailand and approved in the UK, France and other European countries. As the generic market continues to grow we are able to use our cutting edge technologies to offer competitive generic drug solutions for many common illnesses. We also produce and supply OTC drugs (drugs sold without the need of a prescription) by utilizing our direct-sale system in Japan. The combination of these three segments - branded, generic and OTC drugs - produces a synergistic effect enabling us to operate an efficient, hybrid business model.
